Clone Wars Year 1 Part 1

Firefight on Bogden's Moons
BackgroundThe skirmish began when the Honest Gjon and Aia provoked the young Boba Fett into helping steal money. The money itself was being transported between Bogg 2 and Bogg 9, the plan was to catch the balloon carrying the money, with Boba as the pilot of the thieves' craft. The skirmishThe plan was a success at first, with two balloons captured; however, the third balloon was guarded by a security trooper who attempted to stop the thieves. The trooper went inside the thieves' ship and attempted to control the crew; however, Boba dazed the trooper by igniting the ship's engines, and the trooper was then shoved out of the ship by the crew.AftermathAs it turned out, the trooper had really been a hijacker.

Mission to Bakuraan
assignment undertaken by Jedi Masters Sora Bulq and Tholme to locate Count Dooku's hidden base on Bakura. The missionWhen Bulq and Tholme eventually located Dooku, the two Jedi engaged the Sith Lord in a ferocious lightsaber battle. Dooku incapacitated Sora with Force lightning, and attempted to sway Tholme to his side. Tholme refused, and Dooku pressed the attack. He stabbed Tholme through his right shoulder, then wounded his back and took the Jedi's left eye with a swipe of his blade. Defeated, Tholme was unable to stop Dooku bringing down part of the rocky ceiling atop him, crushing his leg, where he lay comatose as Dooku left with Sora in tow.AftermathAlthough Tholme escaped Bakura and returned to the Jedi Temple for treatment, Sora Bulq was converted to the dark side of the Force following the confrontation on Bakura. He would later become a powerful enemy of the Jedi throughout the Clone Wars.

Battle of Atraken BackgroundAtraken, once a rich source of doonium, became a battleground when CIS protectionist forces refused to relinquish control of the mining operation there. Entrenched in the planet’s crust for nearly a year, the Separatists unleashed biochemical agents to deter the Galactic Republic’s clone troopers. This resulted in thousands of civilian casualties as the toxins seeped into much of the planet’s water tables and ecosystems. The battleAs one of the early fronts of the conflict, Atraken was plagued by warfare for almost a year. Its distant location from the Corellian Trade Spine hampered Republic resupply efforts for the clone troopers stationed there, but the push of Operation Katabatic turned the tide, allowing for the conquering of the Separatists' droid armies.Though a tactical victory in denying the Separatists access to the valuable shipbuilding ore, the Battle of Atraken spelled tragedy for the one million inhabitants of the colony world. An estimated 90% of the planet’s population was poisoned, displaced, or killed in the fighting. Those who could afford to leave fled to neighboring worlds, while others were believed to have sought refuge on Trilos, the only Atraken moon with a breathable atmosphere.RRM transport craft had to wait for the clearing of an orbital minefield to examine refugee settlements on the Trilos moon.

Mission to Corellia Mace Windu sent the two Jedi to find the scientist Ratri Tane, who possessed very valuable information.Aayla and Ylenic arrived on Corellia and entered the Homestar cantina, where Aayla accidentally Force pushed an irritating Toydarian named Lorfo. This got the attention of three Gotals who were also looking for Tane.A fight broke out between the Gotals and Jedi (leaving one of the Gotals dead), and the Jedi left the cantina, where Rostek Horn urged them to leave the planet. They were approached by Lorfo, who agreed to lead them to the Gotals' hideout for a few credits. When they arrived there however, they were ambushed by the two remaining Gotals and a Separatist under Count Dooku named Tendir Blue. The Jedi dispatched Tendir and the Gotals, and soon discovered that Ratri Tane was actually Jedi Master Nejaa Halcyon. The Jedi then implanted a fake memory in the unconscious Tendir's mind that he had succeeded in getting the data, sending him on his way and successfully keeping the information from the Confederacy.

firefight on Coruscant BackgroundThe origins of the fight began with Boba Fett coming to Coruscant, where he believed he would be able to contact Count Dooku. Fett entered a bar owned by Nan Mercador. Upon entering the bar, he was told that he should leave, as the bar was no place for children. Boba responded, that he was looking for Dooku, and was allowed to stay. The firefightAfter receiving a free drink, Boba allowed himself to relax, believing his mission a success. However, two bounty hunters—a Diollan and a Rodian—set upon him. Fett, however, tricked both of them, giving himself a chance to escape. Aurra Sing appeared before he could escape. She quickly stunned Nan and took Boba Fett to Dooku, who awarded Sing with Boba's ship, the Slave I.

First Battle of Excarga a battle initiated by the Confederacy of Independent Systems after discovering the valuable ore on ExcargaThe battleThe Separatists succeeded in their invasion, and, in addition to taking control of the ore-processing facilities, took everybody on the planet prisoner.

Second Battle of ExcargaBackgroundThe planet had been won by the CIS during the First Battle of Excarga, and the Republic sent a force to the world to reclaim it, as well as rescue the prisoners taken by the CIS during the first battle. The battleThe Republic defeated the Confederacy's forces, and were largely successful in freeing the prisoners, though several were not found.AftermathMost of those that were orphaned by the CIS invasion and the following imprisonment of the planet's citizens were taken to a temporary homestead on Bespin. One of these orphans named Garr soon became Boba Fett's only friend.

Battle of Kaer Orbital Platform BackgroundSoon after the Battle of Geonosis, Count Dooku desired that his most trusted General, a Dark Acolyte named Sev'rance Tann, help the CIS to rebuild its droid armies.Because of the great amount of resources—including ore, nova crystals, carbon and food—that the InterGalactic Banking Clan had left on their abandoned base, the Kaer Orbitial Platform, Tann was sent there. She brought with her a small force of B2 super battle droids and one heavy hailfire droid, together with some power droids and Geonosian workers. The battleHer mission was to create 20 DSD1 dwarf spider droids and 20 OG-9 homing spider droids. It sounded like a simple mission, but a Republic taskforce under the command of Jedi General Jor Drakas arrived at the platform and the mission quickly turned into a battle. However, Tann's forces were able to infiltrate the Republic base and destroyed their ships.AftermathSoon, Tann's new droid army was finished. Dooku sent Geonosian transports to ship the new forces to Tatooine, were they would be used during the First Battle of Tatooine.

First Battle of Tatooine Confederacy forces under General Sev'rance Tann arrived on Tatooine after she had been informed by Count Dooku that Boorka, a Hutt living on Tatooine, had valuable information for the CIS. After stocking up on supplies on the neighboring Kaer Orbital Platform in the Siskeen system, Tann's forces arrived on Tatooine. The battleFirst, Tann fought her way through Boorka's guards, impressing him greatly. Boorka agreed to give Tann his information concerning the Decimator, but only if she destroyed the Republic spaceport nearby.Tann and her droid forces quickly overpowered the Republic defenses and demolished the spaceport, succeeding in Boorka's task. The Hutt finally gave up his information, which was that the Republic was building a massive weapon called the Decimator on Eredenn Prime.

Battle of Eredenn occurred when Separatist General Sev'rance Tann arrived at the planet during the Hunt for the Decimator after learning of the weapon's existence from Boorka the Hutt. The battleAt Count Dooku's command, Tann's army quickly exterminated the clone trooper garrison there and captured the research facilities that were working on the Decimators.AftermathShe retrieved the machines and took a protocol droid that had data on the Decimator. Sev'rance Tann had thus gotten one step closer to having the Decimator under her control.

First Battle of Alaris Prime The Confederacy of Independent Systems, having secured the Decimator technology from its secret development site on Eredenn, launched an assault on the Wookiee colony of Alaris Prime to acquire the Decimator activation codes. The battleAfter landing on Alaris Prime, General Sev'rance Tann established an island base and struck out against the five Wookiee forces. The battle raged on land, sea and air, with the initial advantage holding for the Wookiees. Sensing the need to disrupt reinforcements, Sev'rance destroyed their transmitter tower and pressed on.The strongest force against the CIS was the Republic presence followed by the outpost Chendrrl, then Rwookawarrump, Llamitcuk, Tayriiwook, and finally Rwaawrrkoo. In the end, Sev'rance defeated the Republic and Wookiee forces, and secured the codes using a data droid.

Battle of Asteroid 426 In order for Count Dooku's plan of invading the volcanic planet of Sarapin, the CIS needed to destroy the primary planetary defense grid in the asteroid maze. The battleLeading the Separatist forces, General Sev'rance Tann fought through the asteroid field and Republic grid defenses to Asteroid 426, located outside of Sarapin in the planet's ring. There, she devastated the Republic forces and destroyed the power relay to Sarapin's shield.AftermathFollowing the collapse of the planetary shield at the hands of the Confederacy, Sarapin was then left for the taking.

First Battle of Sarapin The battleThe Chiss general, Sev'Rance Tann, led Separatist forces to Sarapin along with the stolen Republic weapon, the Decimator. In order to safely land on the planet, Tann destroyed the Republic base in the asteroid field near it.Once on Sarapin, Tann and her forces used the Decimators to destroy the five key armies of the Republic that were stationed on the planet. She also killed Jedi Knight Jor Drakas and captured the Republic's citadel at Mt. Corvast.AftermathAs a result of the battle, much of the Core Worlds were left powerless, spreading fear of the war to that previously-secure region.

Second Battle of Sarapin Following the death of his apprentice, Stam Reath, at the Battle of Geonosis, Echuu Shen-Jon was assigned to retake Sarapin from the Separatist forces there, now under the command of Zian Finnis. He was accompanied by Naat Reath, Stam's sister. The battleArriving on the planet, Echuu and Naat found the remains of a Decimator, fought off the Separatist forces and recaptured the citadel at Mount Corvast.AftermathAfter capturing Finnis, Sarapin was once again in the control of the Republic. Echuu then formally accepted Naat as his new Padawan learner.

Second Battle of Tatooine Following the recapture of Sarapin, Jedi General Echuu Shen-Jon learned from Separatist officer Zian Finnis that the Hutt Cartel had knowledge of the whereabouts of General Sev'rance Tann.Once on Tatooine, Echuu and his Padawan, Commander Naat Reath, met Jabba the Hutt. Jabba knew that Boorka was in league with the Confederacy and felt that Boorka had gone too far. The Jedi's starting army was not enough to destroy the Confederacy's base on the planet. The battleWhen they went into Mos Osnoe, the citizens told them that Tusken Raiders had been attacking at night, but they would still give the Jedi the resources and worker droids necessary to build up their army. Echuu and Naat went to the Tusken Village east of town and killed all of them. The citizens then gave them resources and worker droids. After massing up an army, Echuu and Naat killed Boorka, and Jabba rewarded them for the deed. Republic forces then destroyed all Separatist presence on Tatooine and discovered a Trade Federation outpost on Aereen.

Battle of Aereen The battleThe Trade Federation landed on the dusty moon, and then built a base and began to produce an army. Fighting their way through turrets and security/sentry forces, the Republic forces made it to the main base and destroyed it, along with the Neimoidian leader Plure Barron.AftermathAfter the base's destruction, General Echuu Shen-Jon proceeded to Krant.

Battle of Krant Following the destruction of the Trade Federation operation on Aereen, Echuu Shen-Jon and Naat Reath moved on to invade the planet Krant. The battleOnce on Krant, Echuu and his men encountered a number of Wookiees who had escaped imprisonment by the Confederacy. They went on to destroy several factories producing Decimators, and even encountered a fully operational one, which proved very difficult to defeat. Soon afterwads, Naat was kidnapped by Sev'rance Tann. Allying themselves with the Wookiees, Echuu and the Republic gathered their army at an old Wookiee base and wiped out the droid armies.Duel with Sev'Rance TannWhen Echuu found Naat, Tann appeared and the two fought a long and fierce duel. Echuu let his emotions control him, and eventually defeated her through the aid of the dark side of the Force. When the dying Tann continued to taunt him, Echuu attempted to strike the final blow, but Naat stopped him and helped him to regain control of his emotions. She urged him that they should return to the Jedi Temple, however Echuu realized that it wasn't his Jedi training that defeated Tann, it was the strong presence of the Dark Side within him, and he knew that it would forever be part of his destiny.AftermathSending Naat back to Coruscant, Echuu began a self-imposed exile on Krant, an exile that would continue through the Great Jedi Purge and into the early years of the Galactic Civil War.

First Battle of Rhen Var The battleThe fact that the Republic forces on Rhen Var (which were too small to combat the invasion) was allowed to escape the planet with minimal casualties was due to the organized teamwork of Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. Before the battle, the two Jedi detected an invasion force and rushed to Rhen Var to evacuate forces.Upon arrival, Anakin took control of a LAAT/i and used it to evacuate a nearby outpost. Immediately afterwards, Obi-Wan tasked him with defending a convoy of Republic Troop Transports, and then a Jedi sanctuary. However, as the final outpost was preparing for evacuation, the Confederacy of Independent Systems attacked, leaving Anakin to single-handedly prevent the outpost from being destroyed. As the evacution completed, the Confederacy began to destroy the Outpost.AftermathAlthough the outpost was destroyed in this battle, the Republic returned in search of Ulic Qel-Droma's tomb. Unfortunately for the Jedi, Count Dooku had already discovered Qel-Droma's burial site, and had received guidance from his spirit, in the process learning where the Force Harvester was buried—Raxus Prime.

Battle of Raxus Prime Shortly after the siege of Rhen Var, the Republic had scanned some unusual activity on Raxus Prime. The Republic decided to send a strike force led by the Jedi Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi to check out the activity.Once they arrived, Anakin and Obi-Wan went to the surface to scout the area. After they took out an enemy STAP party after a grueling chase through the wastelands, they had found an enemy excavation site and called their assault ship for reinforcements. The battleAnakin and Obi-Wan made an attack on some supply convoys to stall time for their strike force. Once the strike force landed, they fought a treacherous journey filled with traps and surprise attacks, with Anakin protecting a contingent of AT-TEs and single-handedly clearing out a Separatist outpost. When the finally got to the excavation site the had their beta forces waiting at the back shield for them to knock it out. Once at the main crane site they destroyed the shield generator to allow the beta forces to enter the battle field. Both strike teams attacked and destroyed the remaining defense forces and the cranes fuel lines. As the battle was winding down, Anakin spotted Count Dooku escaping in a Hardcell transport and followed him, but Dooku and Cydon Prax together incapacitated him. Once the starship lifted off, the Confederates released their deadly assault machine, the Protodeka. The Protodeka completely decimated the strike force and only Obi-Wan survived. Obi-Wan single-handedly destroyed the war machine, but Count Dooku's ship had already left the system with Anakin and his deadly machine as the Republic's reinforcements arrived.

Second Battle of Alaris Prime Shortly after the Republic loss at Raxus Prime, Anakin Skywalker and smuggler Bera Kazan were held prisoner by the CIS and taken to the Kashyyyk moon of Alaris Prime. There Count Dooku ordered Cydon Prax to activate the Force Harvester, which would destroy the forests of the planet, as well as kill anyone in its vicinity. The battleAnakin and Bera managed to escape on stolen STAPs as well as free other prisoners (primarily Wookiees). Bera knew some of the Wookiees in the nearby villages, and so they borrowed a pair of maru and that night, infiltrated a Separatist communications center. Using a stolen Armored Assault Tank, the two got farther into the base. Anakin then contacted the Galactic Republic and escaped from the base. The next day, Anakin and Bera, along with a group of Wookiee soldiers waited for the Republic to arrive. The Confederacy attacked the village. Anakin, Bera, and the Wookiee soldiers held off the droid force long enough for the Republic Army to arrive, led by Obi-Wan Kenobi.Kenobi and Skywalker then finished off the remaining Separatists and took out a large assault vehicle called the Harbinger, prompting the Separatists
to retreat.

First Battle of Mirgoshir The battleAround the time of the First Battle of Rhen Var, the Galactic Republic engaged Separatist forces in the Mirgoshir system.AftermathObi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker originally planned to participate in the battle, however, Yoda and Mace Windu sent them to investigate Separatist activity on Raxus Prime. By the time both the Battle of Raxus Prime and the Battle of Alaris Prime were over, the Confederacy had some control of the system. This was clear to the Jedi from reports of Mon Calamari, Agamar, and Bakura showing terrible and devastating effects from the Force Harvester.

Battle of Bespin Led by Jedi Master Glynn-Beti, it was a devastating loss for the Galactic Republic. The Confederacy of Independent Systems had launched an invasion force upon Bespin as its Tibanna gas refineries were the main source of energy for the Republic's turbolasers aboard capital ships and were considered a Republic weapons factory by the CIS. CIS attack on the floating defense platformsNot expecting an attack, the Republic had a small line of defense around Bespin, with only around 1,000 clone troopers and a small squadron of Aethersprite-class light interceptors. The attack came swiftly, with thousands of B1 battle droids aided by Droidekas, and Super battle droids. They managed to capture the southern landing platforms with little difficulty and secured a number of laser turrets, proceeding to overwhelm the Republic troops and capture the Eastern and Western landing platforms and eventually the main control room.Republic pilots barely had time to get in the air to engage the incoming vulture droid fighters, and the now Separatist-manned blaster turrets were able to take down many of the Republic fighters with ease. The remainder of the clone forces fell back to the Northern landing platform; this is where they took their last stand against the advancing horde of battle droids. The Separatists managed to kill the last remaining troops just over three hours after the initial attack. The fall of Cloud CityThe CIS proceeded to advance on Cloud City itself and in turn gain a foothold on the planet. The Republic garrison here had heard of the impending attack from the doomed forces on the defense platforms a few miles away and were prepared, but were ultimately defeated as they had underestimated the sheer size of the droid forces. Once inside the city, the CIS and Republic engaged in a vicious gun battle that spanned the entire settlement. Many hundreds of civilians were caught in the crossfire as evacuation plans were implemented too late, and vulture droids managed to bring down any escape craft that were able to leave the planet. The CIS managed to capture the carbon freezing complex undetected by Republic forces. This proved to be the Republic's downfall, as the capture of the facility allowed Separatist forces to attack from the intricate tunnel system that spanned the bowels of the city.Jedi Master Glynn-Beti personally led a legion of clone troopers into the heart of the invasion but had to pull back once she realized defeat was imminent. Eventually, several LAAT gunships carrying wounded troops, civilians and the surviving Jedi managed to blast their way through CIS aerial forces and make it to the orbiting Star Destroyer and escape.Within 12 hours of the initial attack on the city, the last remaining battalion of clone troopers that had been cut off from the main group made a desperate fight to the last man within the city's courtyard and were destroyed by the droid forces that converged on them.Estimates for the battle rated the Republic to CIS forces as one clone trooper for every 50 battle droids.

Second Battle of Rhen Var
The battle
As a result, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker launched an assault on the planet. During the landing, an Acclamator-class assault ship carrying experimental walkers was shot down. Anakin and Obi-Wan gathered their forces and moved toward the crash site, defending the downed transport and giving time for the surviving AT-XTs to escape. The AT-XTs moved on towards the enemy fueling depot, and with volleys of mortars, destroyed the complex. The sheer force of the attack overwhelmed the Confederate forces. Anakin's LAAT gunships destroyed the staging point for the Separatists, and moved on to secure the CIS command center. The LAAT squad destroyed the defensive gun turrets, allowing a platoon of transports to deploy troops into the command center. As the squad moved on to the temple, they discovered a convoy of transports moving toward the monument. They quickly destroyed the escort AATs, leaving the bigger transports defenseless and ready to be finished off.The planet's military citadel, which could be accessed through a land harbor, was the site of a CIS sensor station. Anakin ordered an AT-TE walker to penetrate the harbor. The CIS tried to defend their walls with battle droids and two old AAT tanks. Gun turrets built onto the barracks were quickly destroyed and clone troopers soon poured into the harbor from the frontal entrance as well as from a side tunnel hollowed out within a network of several icy caverns. The sensor station soon fell to the Republic. In the air above, LAAT gunships destroyed the fleeing Hardcell-class interstellar transports while the SPHA-T artillery walkers destroyed the Trade Federation core ship. Platoons of AT-TEs moved in for support. The Techno Union frigate was brought down, heavily crippling the droid forces. When Anakin penetrated the inner temple and reached the ancient tomb within, he learned how to withstand the effects of the Dark Reaper. With his new knowledge, Anakin declared the battle over and departed from the planet, leaving the CIS in defeat.

First Battle of Ossus
Shortly before the Second Battle of Rhen Var, the Jedi High Council believed that Ossus would fall to the Separatists "within days", and it is known that the system eventually was conquered.

Battle of Sivvi
was an attempt to raid Thule. In order for this to happen, a small shield generator outpost on Thule's moon Sivvi had to be destroyed.
The battleThe Galactic Republic fleet moved towards the moon and were detected by planetary defenses. The Acclamator assault ship carrying most of the ground forces was fired on by a column of HAG artillery and was assaulted by GATs and AATs. Anakin Skywalker took control of a TX-130S fighter tank and cleared out the Separatist tanks, allowing Republic walkers to deploy.Anakin, piloting an AT-XT, escorted a convoy of RTTs carrying clone engineers to the outpost. They hacked into the control systems outside and brought the door down. Anakin piloted his walker and destroyed the four power nodes to the shield, disabling it and allowing forces to land on Thule.

Battle of Thule
Moon AssaultBefore the Republic could make their assault, the Jedi had to make an attack on the Thule moon to destroy the planetary shields so they could land their forces on the planet. This assault was led by Anakin Skywalker. Their main goal was to escort three teams of engineers to the shield generator complex, and then make an assault on the the generators lead by a team of AT-XTs to disable the shields. However, their assault was delayed by a heavily armed CIS strike force on the landing zone and a mortor tank ambush. After those were taken care of, the walkers was able to destroy the complex with ease.
Air StrikeAfter the Battle of Sivvi and the Thule Moon assault, Obi-Wan Kenobi led a gunship cavalry against the Separatist communication center. He cleared the landing zone for Mace Windu's strike force, as well as taking down any Techno Union ships in sight. But because the command center was shielded, clone engineers were deployed into the pair of energy farms, where they disabled the internal shields, leaving the structures vulnerable to the firepower of Kenobi's gunships. With that, Kenobi destroyed the communication center. This crippled Separatist communications across the planet.
Ground Assault
After the fall of the communication center, Mace Windu destroyed several Vulture droids. He protected AT-TEs while they marched to destroy the droid hangars and factories. He and Luminara Unduli go on ahead to towards Kessia, the Sith city, destroying two Protodekas with difficulty on the way.Arriving near gates of the city, Yoda sent in reinforcements. However, Cydon Prax attacked Mace Windu in his Dreadnought battle tank, destroying Mace's tank and forcing Mace to fight into an underground tunnel complex to open the gate to the city.As their frontal forces began entering Kessia, Anakin Skywalker's own strike force attacked from the other side. He fought past the CIS forces until he reaches the city center. Cydon Prax guarded the Dark Reaper in his Dreadnought battle tank. Anakin emerged victorious and destroyed Prax and moved on to destroy the Dark Reaper, with the spirit of Ulic Qel-Droma guiding him. He destroyed the Reaper's shield generators, guns, harvester bays, then the Force Harvester itself. With the Harvester destroyed, the Reaper could no longer power itself and began crashing down. Anakin managed to avoid being crushed by its powerless hull.
AftermathThe Reaper was, for a second time, destroyed. However, the knowledge Anakin gained from Ulic Qel-Droma, including immunity to the Reaper's effects, caused him to act more arrogantly towards Obi-Wan and indirectly led him to take another step towards the path of the dark side of the Force.Meanwhile, Count Dooku had escaped and the Republic forces left the planet. Mace Windu regarded the battle as a turning point, but Yoda pointed out that the war was still far from over.

Second Battle of Mirgoshir
Following the Battle of Thule, Mace Windu and Yoda allowed more Republic forces to move into the Mirgoshir system and retake it from the Separatists. The beleaguered army of clones were able to destroy the CIS forces with ease, and the separatists were forced to retreat in an everyone-for-himself fashion, and were quickly destroyed.

Battle of Geonosis

Battle of Geonosis
The Battle of Geonosis was the first battle between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and the Galactic Republic in the conflict that would become known as the Clone Wars. It would be the first major combat of the Grand Army of the Republic, as well as the first major battle the Jedi would fight in years. It would spark a huge war that would devastate most of the galaxy.PreludeThe battle occurred after Separatist forces captured Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi on Geonosis and charged him with spying for the Republic. Anakin Skywalker and Senator Padmé Amidala attempted to rescue Kenobi, but were also captured and sentenced to death. They narrowly escaped their executions, which involved an acklay, a nexu, and a reek.[1]In response to Kenobi's report about the Separatists' conspiracy, the Galactic Senate, at the suggestion of Senator Jar Jar Binks, granted Supreme Chancellor Palpatine "emergency powers" to deal with the crisis.Yoda brought the clone army into use, and sent them to Geonosis right behind a Jedi strike force. The rapid nature of the deployment left Cuy'val Dar sergeants such as Kal Skirata reeling at waking up to discover the commando squads they had trained gone.Penetrating the defensesA group of about 200 Jedi, led by Jedi Masters Mace Windu, Coleman Trebor, Eeth Koth, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon, Shaak Ti, Luminara Unduli and Ki-Adi-Mundi were sent to Geonosis by the Jedi Council to rescue Obi-Wan Kenobi and investigate reports that Separatists were constructing an army on Geonosis. Upon entering the system, the fleet of Jedi starfighters were fired upon by Anti-orbital cannons, taking several casualties. Mace Windu and Luminara Unduli slipped past the firing range of the cannons and commandeered TX-130S fighter tanks, and employed communications jamming to stop any CIS forces from calling for reinforcements. They set off to disable the orbital cannons. The droid defenses, consisting of GATs, Hailfire droids, and STAPs, attempted to hold them off, but were destroyed by the Jedi. The power nodes were destroyed, causing the cannons to explode.[2]The last cannon, however, was housed in a crashed republic cruiser. Mace set out on foot to disable the cannon. He penetrated the droid defenses and destroyed the last power nodes with his lightsaber. With the orbital defenses disabled, a landing zone had to be made. The Jedi strike team landed in a captured Confederate outpost and moved toward the arena in a convoy of RTTs. Mace and Luminara cleared the way in their tanks. They reached the perimeter of the arena, where they destroyed 6 tunnel catacombs deploying battle droids. The Jedi deployed into the arena quietly.[2]Arena battleThe three captives, Anakin, Padmé and Obi-Wan managed to avoid the nexu, reek, and acklay beasts that had been set upon them long enough for Master Windu's 200-Jedi rescue mission team to arrive. However, Count Dooku revealed the Separatist's new secret battle droid army, and a heated battle took place. Though outnumbered 50 to 1, the Jedi fought to the end. It was during the heated battle that followed that bounty hunter Jango Fett attempted to fight and kill the legendary Korun Jedi Master, Mace Windu. However, during the fight, a reek arena beast nearly trampled Jango and damaged his jet pack. After killing the reek, Jango was charged by Mace Windu; at the last second the Mandalorian attempted to activate his jetpack, but failed. Mace Windu quickly beheaded the famous bounty hunter. His armored head was soon found by his "son" Boba Fett. The Jedi suffered heavy casualties; 179 Jedi Knights fell in battle before Master Yoda arrived with the newly-created clone army in several LAAT gunships to rescue the twenty or so Jedi who remained. The stadium was littered with droid parts.Desert battleAfter the rescue of the Jedi, the droid and clone armies engaged one another in a complex series of engagements on a number of different fronts. The Republic's army landed in twelve Acclamator I-class assault ships, offloading infantry, armored vehicles, artillery and air support. The Separatist army consisted of droid infantry of varying strength and larger droid-controlled vehicles. Crucially, the Republic conducted an aerial bombardment of the Separatists' fighter craft, allowing the Republic's gunships to have air superiority throughout much of the battle, giving the clone forces a crucial advantage.Although the clone troopers were vastly outnumbered by droids, the droids were heavily exposed to attacks from the air by Republic gunships. The Republic's armored AT-TE walkers were strong against the lightly armored spider droids employed by the Separatists, but were vulnerable to the rockets on the Hailfire droids. The Republic gunships were instrumental in clearing away the Hailfire droids and allowing the AT-TEs to establish superiority on the battlefield, although the Hailfires were able to shoot down a number of LAATs.Meanwhile, Mace Windu, who was fighting on the ground, made his way to a LAAT/i and used it to destroy several Hardcell-class interstellar transports before landing and defending SPHA guns bringing down core ships in a TX-130S fighter tank. In this way, three core ships were taken down, before Mace was informed that contact with Master Yoda had been lost. Having beaten the droid army into retreat, Yoda took note of the fact that much of the Separatist starfleet was still grounded receiving shipments of droids when the Republic attacked. Lightly armored and vulnerable Techno Union starships attempted to withdraw immediately, but many were destroyed in the first wave of attacks from the Republic gunships. The Jedi Master now ordered the army's artillery to attempt to take down as many of the heavily armored Trade Federation Core Ships as possible, as they each held millions of deadly battle droids, while in space the Republic fleet intercepted and destroyed the Separatist ships (that carried scores of combat droids). The Republic was successful in this but despite taking control of the surface of the planet, they were unable to capture the Separatist leadership and stop the war before it began (Commando teams infiltrated the spires holding the Geonosian cities and managed to complete their objectives, however, they suffered heavy casualties). Meanwhile, Echuu Shen-Jon and a team of other Jedi, including Plo Koon, destroyed several core-ships and Techno Union vessels, before setting off to pursue Count Dooku. However, they were delayed by Sev'Rance Tann, who killed Stam Reath, Echuu's apprentice, angering Echuu. Sev'Rance escaped, and the Jedi pursuit of Dooku was presumably lost.[3]Above a crevasse, the Republic Commando squad Theta Squad rappelled in and placed charges on a Geonosian door while Delta Squad held off OG-9 spider droids nearby. After the door was blown, Theta and Delta entered the Geonosian caverns and split up. Heading for a droid foundry, Theta squad leader RC-1133 ordered RC-1136 to stay behind and hold a position while the rest moved forward. 1136, or Darman, lost contact with his squad and pulled out. He was the only survivor of Theta.Delta Squad managed to kill Geonosian Separatist General Sun Fac as he attempted to flee the planet in his personal Geonosian fighter. They also spotted General Grievous's Soulless One. Later, Delta Squad infiltrated and destroyed the underground droid factory that Theta had been aiming for and a Federation Coreship, stealing (under heavy fire) the escape coordinates for the CIS fleet, thus allowing the Republic artillery and fleet to take down the rest of the CIS fleet. Along the way, they also eliminated significant numbers of droids, Geonosian warriors, and an anti-aircraft turret.Space battleFollowing an initial raid on a Geonosian power plant, Adi Gallia and her former Padawan, now Jedi Knight Siri Tachi, flew into orbit in their Delta-7 interceptors, intending to intercept escaping droid transports. Navigating through the asteroid ring, the Jedi received a hyperspace transmission from Nym, warning that Captain Cavik Toth of Sabaoth Squadron was en route to Geonosis with his Hex fleet. With the power of trihexalon, Toth intended to level the battlefield on Geonosis, under the orders of Count Dooku.[5]Adi and Siri led the fight against Toth's Hex Deployers and Bombers, alongside a squadron of Jedi pilots including A'Sharad Hett and An'ya Kuro. The Hex threat was summarily defeated under Jedi firepower, though the pilots were soon outmatched with the arrival of two Sabaoth Destroyers and complements of Sabaoth starfighters and Defenders. Fortunately, Loyalist aid arrived in the form of Nym and the Lok Revenants, soon joined by three Mere cruisers capable of taking down Toth's capital ships.[5]Although the two warships were destroyed, a third Destroyer emerged from hyperspace—Toth's flagship. The Mere cruisers directed their fire on this vessel, though Nym sustained critical damage during the fight, and was forced to leave the battlefield. Nevertheless, the Revenants penetrated the flagship's deflector shields, and the Destroyer's main systems went critical. Toth himself fled his flagship in a personal starfighter, and engaged Adi Gallia in single combat. Toth's weaponry could not overcome the Jedi's mastery of the Force, and his fighter was destroyed moments before his flagship exploded.[Duel with a Sith LordIn the midst of the battle the Separatist leader Dooku tried to escape to a hangar where his starship was located. A gunship carrying Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala gave chase. Dooku ordered his Geonosian escorts to take out the pursuing gunship. The resulting attack on the gunship led to Amidala and a clone trooper falling to the desert below (though they escaped any serious injuries), and this led to some brief tension between Skywalker and Kenobi. Upon arriving at Dooku's hangar, Kenobi and Skywalker engaged Dooku in a lightsaber battle where Dooku revealed himself to be a Sith. Skywalker, his anger getting the best of him, charged, only to be hit by Force lightning and thrown aside. Kenobi then attempted to best Dooku in a lightsaber duel using Form III, but was unprepared to combat Dooku's more elegant style of Form II. Despite his wise restraint against Dooku, Obi-Wan, weak from the battle and armed only with an unfamiliar lightsaber, was still defeated. As Dooku raised his lightsaber to kill Kenobi, Anakin, having recovered from the blast of Force Lightning, leapt into action and parried Dooku's strike. Recovering Obi-Wan's lightsaber and using it in conjunction with his own, Anakin dueled Dooku. He soon lost the green one in battle and, using his blue blade, the battle kept going in the dark. Dooku cut the lightsaber open, then swiftly severed Anakin's right arm. Mace Windu also attempted to stop Dooku, but he encountered three of Dooku's Dark Acolytes, who blocked off the ground entrance to the hangar. They engaged Windu in combat, and all three were killed by the Jedi Master's TX-130S fighter tank.[2]Yoda entered the hangar, preventing Dooku from killing the two Jedi. Their duel started off with a demonstration of Force power. Dooku attempted to kill Yoda by telekinetically ripping objects out of the wall and throwing them at the Jedi, and when that failed, he fired a deadly blast of lightning at him, but Yoda was not to be outdone. He caught the lightning and hurled it at Dooku, who, through the Force, sent it into a nearby wall. Dooku's next blast was absorbed by Yoda. The two then drew their lightsabers and dueled. Dooku unleashed his full mastery of Makashi against Yoda, but Yoda's masterful use of Ataru held off Dooku's relentless attacks, before driving the Sith Lord back. Dooku, realizing that he could not win, distracted Yoda by using the Force to topple a power column onto Kenobi and Skywalker. Yoda was forced to back down and save the two, allowing Dooku to flee to his ship and escape.AftermathWhen the Republic assault ship Implacable was extracted from Geonosis, med triage on board estimated 12,000 seriously injured men and 8,000 walking wounded. Approximately 72,000 clones were deemed combat-fit. Thousands of clone troopers had died in the fighting.Count Dooku flew to Coruscant, to meet with his master, who was settled in an abandoned district not far from the Jedi Temple. During his meeting with Darth Sidious, the Dark Lord ordered Dooku, now Darth Tyranus, to retreat to Raxus Prime to prepare a second battlefront against the Republic. Meanwhile, the Grand Army of the Republic was mobilized throughout the galaxy as the Clone Wars began. The main reason for the Separatist's defeat is derived from the fact that they were caught completely by surprise, working against their numerical superiority. Another reason they lost is that despite the fact Sev'rance Tann and General Grievous, arguably the Droid Army's most brilliant commanders, were present, they were not given command of the army, and were instead placed in support positions. Grievous remained unknown to the Republic, for he killed off any of the Jedi or clones he encountered[6], while Sev'rance Tann escaped Geonosis after killing Echuu Shen-Jon's Padawan, Stam Reath. While back at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, Masters Kenobi and Windu both expressed their mutual belief that the battle would not have been won without the clones, but Master Yoda retorted at the irony of Obi-Wan's use of the word "victory". The battle was but the first of many in what became known as the Clone Wars.In the months following the battle Mace Windu would regret his decision not to strike down Count Dooku when he had the chance, and killing Jango Fett without a second thought.[7]Depa Billaba would later state to Windu on Haruun Kal that by simply bombing the arena on Geonosis, the Republic could have prevented a war that destroyed billions of lives at the expense of only a few hundred Jedi.[7]Kal Skirata lost nine commandos that he trained in the battle, namely the casualties from Theta Squad, Prudii Squad, and Teroch Squad. He, Walon Vau, RC-1309, and RC-8015 would later reflect that this had been due to the Jedi's ill-advised usage of the commandos as infantry rather than special forces.

The Raid on the Core Ship was the first successful breach of a Separatist Core Ship by Galactic Republic forces, implemented by Delta Squad. The advanceA LAAT/i gunship deployed the four members of Delta Squad into a canyon relatively close the Core Ship access way. They proceeded into the canyon, and were almost immediately ambushed by Geonosians. They soon discovered a downed gunship where two clone troopers were firing on Geonosians, who soon killed the troopers right in front of Delta leader RC-1138. A beam turret was then used to destroy the enemy warriors. They encountered dozens more warriors before disabling a colossal anti-air turret under fire from battle droids. They hastened from the turret's bunker, meeting worthy opposition from B2 super battle droids along the way. During the battle, a third clone trooper was killed when he was hit by enemy fire and was blown out of his gunship and into the bunker through a window. They finally reached the entrance to the Core Ship, but they were unable to penetrate the shield, so the Clone advisor ordered them to blast through a rock wall to reach a nearby exit. RC-1138 led his three commandos towards the second door, and the defending droids were destroyed in short order.Suddenly, however, an Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid came through a different doorway, and began firing its cannons at the stranded squad. After several intense minutes, the droid had been blown up and a gunship blasted the shield protecting the Core Ship's entryway, allowing access for Delta Squad. The shipThe squad split up, tasked with sabotaging various crucial systems. RC-1138 stormed through the B2 battle droid storage racks, rapidly finishing off any of them that were activated. He found Sev in a corridor just before three droidekas rolled by, but they easily destroyed them using EC detonators, proceeding to save Scorch and Fixer, who were under heavy fire.Rendezvoused, Delta Squad encountered a B1 battle droid dispenser, then several Geonosian elites and a second Advanced Dwarf Spider Droid. Entering a lift, the squad prepared for their ultimate objective, the theft of the Core Ship launch codes, which were housed on the bridge. At that moment, a battle droid announced over a loudspeaker that all primary systems would overload in 5 minutes.Delta Squad charged through multiple corridors, meeting dozens of droids on the way, and finally entered the bridge with only about one and a half minutes to spare. They brought down three auto-turrets and a squad of B1 battle droids, and Fixer began extracting the codes from a console as Droidekas and B2s began swarming onto the bridge. The retreatAfter a minute, Delta Squad, gravely injured and being constantly hit by laserbolts, retreated through a corridor to a waiting LAAT/i Gunship just as the Core Ship began to explode. The success of the mission earned credit for Delta Squad, who became one of the most deadly and well-known commando squads in the Galactic Republic.
